jewelry inspiration [satomi kawakita]

I get far too excited inside when I find a new jewelry designer that I l-o-v-e. The problem with most of them is that I can't afford even the simplest piece in their collections. And while nothing's different in this case (sigh), I'm just crazy for Satomi Kawakita's bracelets & rings. I can't get enough of the use of natural gems & mismatched metals, and I'd proudly stack those rings on my fingers any day.

How was your long weekend? I enjoyed a short but sweet visit from my best friend from Wisconsin. It's always nice to catch up on girl talk and get a little taste of home from the one who knows you best. Happy Memorial Day!

happy [sisterly] weekend

It's Friday! What are your fabulous plans? For me, this weekend is reserved for some much-needed time with my big sister, who's visiting from Colorado. We're off to Vancouver to watch our little brother row crew & spend as much time outside near the water as we can. When we were little, Darrah loved to carry me around [see above] like I was her favorite baby doll. Let's hope it's not quite like that on this visit, but still filled with just as much love & laughter. Enjoy your weekend & we'll see you back here on Monday! xo.

shades of [the beach]

Loving this color palette for a peaceful living space. When I look at this image, I'm instantly transported to the beach... and I love that. And while the Roman shades & cushy couch are fabulous, if you ask me, the windows are this room's best accessory. Loads of natural light only accentuate the already-beachy decor. Perfection!

swimsuit shopping

You wouldn't know it by stepping outside around here, but summer is certainly near. Long weekends at the lake & lazy afternoons on the beach are on my mind -- and so is the perfect bikini to go along with it.

I've been swooning over the above options from Anthropologie. Muted colors, playful ruffles & feminine silhouettes seem like the perfect combination for a summer suit, don't you think? What's your go-to swim wear? While I tend to resort back to a classic black bikini most of the time, I'd love to try something bolder this summer. Suggestions much appreciated!

It's a big week for us at work over here, and while the biggest hurdle has already been jumped, I have a feeling the excitement won't slow for quite a few days. And with that said, I'm off to bed. Cheers!

perfectly mismatched

I love this. I'm slowly shifting away from the "everything must match" philosophy and falling head over heels for the casual elegance of blue striped pillows with purple patterned rugs & a simple gold end table. On paper, I might say no. But in photos, I must say yes.

shades of [spring weekends]

For the month of May, you can't go wrong with cutoffs and a classic oversized men's shirt. Top it off with piles of funky jewelry, neutral strappy sandals & a messenger bag, and you've got my Saturday afternoon uniform. I love the muted shades of summery hues that offer a casual escape from weekday office attire. What's your go-to weekend outfit lately? I hope you got to wear something stylish and comfortable this weekend while doing something fabulous!

front-porch feeling

"Inviting" is an adjective I've always aspired to, whether it be in the way I carry myself, or the way I decorate my home. And this house has "inviting" nailed down. I envision neighbors dropping by to drop off homemade banana bread and strangers pausing to say hello during their evening stroll -- I know I would. All I know is that I spend far too much time dreaming of a home like this one in my future... talk about curb appeal!

Are you a front porch person? It's a sentiment that reminds me of the Midwest, where the neighborhood kids play night games & the moms borrow milk for baking. I might be biased, but I think it's the best way to live, and I'm certainly missing Wisconsin these days. Spring is the most wonderful time of year in a land where winter lasts six months... shorts & flip flops are the norm when the temperature passes 50; the smell of backyard barbecues fill the air come May 1; and everyone's outside, grinning from ear to ear because they haven't felt the sun since September. So, here's to everyone back home, likely coming out of hibernation this weekend. Cheers!

happy [first of may] weekend

Weekend wishes & words of wisdom: straw fedoras and summer bed head; pink, plush peonies; and the motivation to just be yourself. I've been thinking it's Friday for three days now, so I'm thrilled to finally be able to say... Happy Friday! What are your weekend plans? I'm hoping for a break in the gloomy forecast just long enough for a couple of trips to the dog park, or a long dinner alfresco. Cheers!
